Equity and Complete Streets in Oakland

Learn from the City of Oakland Department of Transportation's Complete Streets Paving Manager Sarah Fine who has successfully incorporated equity and complete streets work into Oakland's pavement management and sidewalk programs while simultaneously addressing local unemployment issues by hiring Oakland residents from priority equity communities. 

 

Sarah Fine manages the Oakland Department of Transportation (OakDOT) annual $57M paving program and $3M curb ramp & sidewalk program to improve Oakland streets to a state of good repair and deliver safety, accessibility, and complete streets improvements in an equitable manner citywide. Prior to this role, she was a Senior Transportation Planner where she led a team that plans and implements transit and active transportation projects. Previous to OakDOT, Sarah worked as a transportation planner at the San Francisco County Transportation Authority and as a bicycle and pedestrian planner at Alta Planning+Design.
